DePaul cherishes the inherent dignity of every individual member of our community; this is both our culture and our mission.

St. Vincent de Paul, for whom DePaul University is named, and from whom DePaul derives its sense of community and values, believed in "the God-given dignity and inestimable value of each human person." In other words, at DePaul, we recognize that part of our inestimable value comes from our unique experiences and cultural backgrounds. We believe that we must understand, respect, and embrace our differences. We also believe we must see our unique backgrounds as pieces of the whole - and not allow others to decide a person's value or importance in the community on the sole basis of our differences. Everyone is equally important and bring different strengths to our vibrant community.
