Public Safety Office

This information is being provided to you as part of DePaul University's commitment to safety and security on its campuses and is in compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act.

In order for an incident to be investigated and/or adjudicated, the victim must report the incident to the Public Safety Office, which has a Human Dignity Committee liaison officer. Members of the Human Dignity Committee can neither initiate a "University investigation" nor deliver a "University response" to any incident. Public Safety can take a "confidential report," meaning the report will not reflect the name of the person making the report. At the student's request, members of the Human Dignity Committee can also accompany the student to either the Dean of Students Office or to Public Safety.

The Public Safety Office is the unit responsible for security and emergency response at DePaul's two Chicago campuses. With offices at both campuses open 24 hours a day and staffed by trained, professional public safety officers, DePaul Public Safety will report all felonies and serious misdemeanors that are reported or that they are observed to the Chicago Police Department via 911 as soon as possible. For lesser misdemeanors, the victim will be encouraged and assisted by security officers to report the crime to the Chicago Police Department. The Public Safety Office has an excellent working relationship with both the Chicago Police and Fire Departments, where assistance and support can be obtained immediately.
